Quilt Preparation Guidelines
- Layers:
- Quilt top, backing, and batting must be separate.
- Do not pin or baste layers together.
- Measurements:
- Backing and batting must each measure at least 8 inches longer and wider than the quilt top (e.g., for a 60 x 80 quilt top, use 68 x 88 backing/batting).
- Orientation:
- If your quilt top or backing has a definite "head," please mark it.
- Indicate if the design is directional.
- Embellishments:
- No buttons or beads on the quilt top. You may add them after quilting.
- Consult before sending quilts with open/3D piecing or raw edge appliqué.
- Preparation:
- Clip all loose threads and press seams well.
- Backing Fabric:
- Choose quilting cottons only. No upholstery, denim, knit fabrics, or bed sheets.
- If seaming is needed, trim selvages and press seams to the side.
- Avoid sewn-in quilt labels near edges or designs needing exact centering.
- Minke is acceptable with a possible surcharge; ensure color matches the quilt top.
- Binding:
- Batting Choices:
- Select based on quilt use (e.g., wall hanging, season, laundering frequency).
- I offer a range of Quilter’s Dream batting; seamed battings are not accepted.
